Softening into the Heart with Kunzite
This summer I spent some time on Mallorca, and in one of those beautifully unexpected ways, I met Joanne Stone. She had just moved from Miami and was beginning her new life on the island. We crossed paths and shared some memorable moments, one of them being a night swim under the stars by Dragon Island.
The sea was quiet, the night sky endless, and in that moment there was such a sense of presence of being held by nature, by the water, by the mystery of it all. That evening Joanne introduced me to Kunzite, a stone I had never carried before. Since that night, it has been with me every day.
Kunzite, with its soft pink shimmer, is often described as a stone of the heart. It is known to calm the nervous system, ease tension, and open us into self-love and compassion. I experience it as a gentle reminder, a whisper that it is safe to soften, that openness can be tender, and that our hearts long for touch just as much as our bodies do.
In my work with touch and intimacy, I often speak of how the body remembers safety through sensation. Holding Kunzite has become another layer of this practice for me like an anchor that supports me in returning to my own center when life feels overwhelming.
A Simple Ritual with Kunzite
If you feel called, here is a small practice you can try with Kunzite (or simply with your own touch, imagining the stone’s pink light):
Find a comfortable seat and take a moment to arrive.
Place the stone in one hand, and bring your other hand to your heart.
Close your eyes and breathe deeply three times, feeling your chest rise and fall.
Whisper an intention to yourself, such as:
“I allow my heart to soften.”
or simply: “I am open.”Stay for a few minutes, letting the warmth of your hand and the presence of the stone create a sense of safety and tenderness.
This small ritual is a way of remembering yourself of pausing, softening, and letting your own body remind you that you are supported.
I carry deep gratitude for crossing paths with Joanne and for this introduction to Kunzite. Her jewelry reflects the same presence and beauty I felt that night on Dragon Island. If you feel drawn, you can discover her creations here.
