Touching The Root
Unlocking the Power of the Pelvis for Emotional and Physical HealingWhen was the last time you truly thought about your pelvis?
Not just as a body part, but as the center of your physical and emotional foundation — a place that holds your weight, your movement, your creativity, and often, your unspoken stories.
In my own healing journey, the pelvis was a turning point. After years of chronic pain and feeling disconnected from my body, I discovered that reconnecting with my pelvic area helped me find strength, groundedness, and a new sense of vitality. Today, I support others in doing the same — from clients in pain to practitioners integrating somatic tools into their work.
Why the Pelvis Matters
The pelvis is the foundation of your body’s structure. It connects your spine to your legs, supports your internal organs, and plays a key role in breathing, posture, and even emotional regulation.
Whether you’re a movement practitioner, therapist, or simply curious about embodied health, understanding the pelvis can be a game changer.
Here's why:
Physical Stability: Your pelvic floor muscles and ligaments support your spine and core.
Energetic Center: In many traditions, the pelvis is considered the seat of creative energy and life force.
Emotional Storage: Tension, trauma, and stress often accumulate here, subtly affecting your sense of safety and expression.
Sensuality & Pleasure: The pelvic region plays a vital role in sensation, intimacy, and expression.
Why Touch and Release Matter (More Than Just Training)
Much of the conversation around pelvic health focuses on strength training, especially when it comes to the pelvic floor. And yes — strength is important. But true pelvic vitality comes from both tone and release, from control and expansion.
This is where therapeutic touch becomes so powerful. Gentle, intentional, and informed touch can:
Help the body let go of unconscious holding patterns
Improve circulation, mobility, and tissue hydration
Deepen one’s sense of safety and connection to the pelvis
Support emotional and energetic release
A 2021 study published in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics beautifully backs this up: researchers found that combining pelvic floor muscle training with connective tissue massage led to significantly better outcomes than training alone — including increased pelvic floor strength, reduced urgency, and improved quality of life.
